Spring is here, and that means it’s time to start sprucing up your home to make the most of the season’s warmer weather. And if you aren’t sure where to start, we have some suggestions.
Prep your yard for outdoor entertaining
Spring is the perfect time to sit in the back yard and soak up some sun, but after winter your yard may look a little worse for wear. If you’re looking for a simple weekend project, cleaning is the way to go. Start by power washing your deck or giving it a more thorough cleansing with a cleaning solution. When you’re done, you may want to stain it for a pop of color or seal it to protect it from the sun.
Next on the list: pull your patio furniture out of storage and give it a good scrub. If it’s been sitting outside all season, it probably looks worse for wear, but even if it’s been in the garage it’s likely covered with dust and grime. You may be surprised by the difference some elbow grease can make!
Don’t have a deck? Maybe this is the year to make the most of your back yard by adding a deck to your home. Depending on the size of the project and your DIY savvy, this may fall within the range of weekend project, too. But if your DIY skills aren’t up to snuff, now’s the time to look for a contractor to do it for you, so you’re sure to be set up for spring.
Get ready for gardening
Whether you’re big on gardening or not, doing some outdoor cleanup will make your home’s exterior look a lot nicer — which can go a long way to helping you enjoy the outdoors this spring. Prune trees and shrubs, clear debris from flower beds, and make sure any walkways and fences are in good order. If you want to get more elaborate, it’s a good time to consider laying out new garden beds. Pick a space that gets plenty of sun (or shade, depending on what you want to plant), and prep it with compost to get ready for planting.
If you already have the garden of your dreams, maybe it’s time to build walkways to break up and navigate your yard. DIY projects abound, with gravel and stepping stone walkways offering simple options even for those without serious home improvement skills.
